Kitimat Fire and Ambulance Service responds to fatal structure fire

On January 17, 2023 at approximately 12:06 pm, the Kitimat Fire and Ambulance Service responded to a report of a residential structure fire on the 500 block of Columbia Avenue.

On arrival, crews found a fully involved structure with reports of one occupant still inside the home. Two other residents who were also in the residence at the time were able to escape but suffered from fire-related injuries. Both occupants were taken to hospital by ambulance. Tragically, the occupant that was reported still inside the home was later located in the residence deceased. 

Kitimat Fire and Ambulance is currently investigating the cause of the fire with the assistance of the Office of the Fire Commissioner, the RCMP and the Coroner’s office.
