The District of Kitimat is privileged to honour the recipients of this year’s Distinguished Citizen Awards.
Each year as part of our July 1 celebrations, the District recognizes the positive ways citizens build and support our community.
The recipients are selected from candidates who are nominated by residents in the community.
“We are a stronger and better community thanks to the people who take pride in where they live,” says Mayor Phil Germuth. “I am happy each year to see who has earned the Distinguished Citizen award, and the amazing work they have done to have been recognized by their friends and neighbours.”
Our Distinguished Citizen Award recipients
Douglas Graham
For more than 10 years, Doug has been a staple in Kitimat Minor Hockey as a volunteer coach, often stepping up when no one else could. Juggling his personal life and on-ice life, he has made sure generations of kids have been able to enjoy the sport. He has been nominated for his time, dedication, and ongoing mentorship and role modelling for youth and parents alike.
Shaun Oviatt
Many of Kitimat’s best and most notable events have succeeded because of Shaun’s contributions. Since 2009, Shaun has provided his personal and professional resources to events such as the Kitimat Rail Jam, Kitimat Mud Games, and this year’s sand volleyball tournament. He has contributed as well to past community features such as a snow maze, giant snowman, and a snowmobile stunt track.
Rob Goffinet
Rob has been a figure in the community for more than four decades. As a volunteer for local events and committees, he has supported a strong Kitimat. He has and remains and advocate for local healthcare, education, and citizen wellness. He continues to volunteer his time on a number of local committees and boards.
