Mayor's statement on the passing of former Mayor Paul Monaghan

On hearing news of the passing of Paul Monaghan, Kitimat Mayor Phil Germuth offers this statement:

On behalf of the District of Kitimat, we are saddened to hear of the passing of former mayor Paul Monaghan.

Monaghan earned his Mayorship in the November 1974 municipal election. He served in that position until 1976. When elected he was 33, Kitimat’s youngest mayor.

It is never easy to serve your community, navigating the complexity that comes as an elected official. I respect Paul’s dedication to our community both as a former Kitimat business person and as the community’s mayor, and I offer his family and friends our condolences.
