Mayor's Statement on the passing of John Horgan

Kitimat Mayor Phil Germuth offers this statement on the passing of John Horgan:

On behalf of the District of Kitimat, we mourn the loss of British Columbia’s former Premier John Horgan.

Horgan leaves a legacy of strong leadership for the province and a history of work which has brought benefit to the people of Kitimat and beyond.

During his Premiership, Kitimat saw the LNG Canada project move forward, the single-largest private investment decision in Canada. This came following his government’s LNG Framework, guiding the development of LNG projects in the province.

His legacy to our region is not only his support for these important projects but his support for local governments to have their fair share from these developments.

Horgan’s work paved the way for the Resource Benefit Alliance announcement early in 2024 that saw significant funding for communities in the North, including Kitimat.

He was a champion for local government and a strong northern economy, and, truly, a passionate public servant who will be remembered fondly by those who knew him.
