Notes from Council, August 18
- In addressing the concerns of temporary homeless shelters in Kitimat, the District will write a letter to the Province of B.C. advocating for a year-round shelter in the community. This motion stems from a tabled motion for District staff to report to Council on ways to eliminate temporary shelters and assist persons experiencing homelessness.
- Council approved a Temporary Use Permit renewal application for 2150 Forest Avenue. This is related to the Hirsch Creek Concrete mobile concrete batch plant.
- Council approved a Development Variance Permit application for 35 Davy Crescent, which reduces the minimum front setback allowing for the construction of a carport over the existing driveway.
- A budget transfer was approved, re-allocating $68,000 in the budget towards the Tamitik Arena condenser replacement, allowing the installation of a Direct Digital Controls System. This device is an automated system to monitor and control various building functions.
- To meet the requirements of the grant application to the Union of BC Municipalities, Council passed a motion that the District provide overall grant management and support any cost overruns related to their applied-for project to install a self-haul transfer station at the Kitimat Landfill.
- To purchase new self-contained breathing apparatuses for the Kitimat Fire & Ambulance Service, Council has authorized a $490,000 loan through the Municipal Finance Authority which will be repaid within five years.
- Council approved entering the annual operating agreement between the District and with BC Transit.
