Notes from Council, February 24, 2025:
- Council received a presentation on the Development Approvals Process – Gap Analysis. This report is part of a process funded by a grant from the Union of BC Municipalities. The gap analysis report identifies key findings that may help improve the District of Kitimat’s approvals process for developments. In the coming months a full report will be prepared and presented for Council’s review.
- Council will forward a motion to the North Central Local Government Association’s annual general meeting, advocating for the provincial government to allow municipalities to opt-in to the Speculation and Vacancy Tax program, targeting properties which have been vacant for two or more years.
- If accepted by the NCLGA, the motion will be submitted to the Union of BC Municipalities for consideration of endorsement to the provincial government.
- The existing Speculation and Vacancy Tax program applies to a set of specified-municipalities and is not available universally.
Next meeting is scheduled for March 3, 2025 at 7:00 p.m.
