Notes from Council, September 15, 2025

  • Council accepted an application from the Liquor and Cannabis Regulation Branch (LCRB) relating to an applied-for cannabis retail store licence for 354 City Centre.
    • Accepting the application begins a public engagement process and internal review process and does not mean the applicant is yet permitted to proceed.
    • Once Council has received staff input and public engagement results, direction will be made for a recommendation to the LCRB on the matter of issuing a licence.

  • Direction was given to prepare a bylaw for Council consideration which would amend the minimum parking requirements for Downtown Kitimat. Existing bylaw generally sets a minimum amount of off-street parking that is tied to the floor area of a business. Staff will conduct further research on this matter and will return with options to Council for changing, but not removing, minimum parking requirements.
