This post has been revised to reflect a new closure date:
The first of two planned Haisla Bridge closures will happen on Saturday, September 30, from 7:30 p.m. until 3:30 a.m. During this time all motor and pedestrian traffic across Haisla Bridge will be stopped to allow for the removal of the original structure.
The process, called a “jack and slide” operation, means the old bridge structure will be raised and slid onto the new bridge. Once moved, it will be rolled off the bridge to a site in the Service Centre for further dismantling.
The Haisla Bridge project has always included the removal of the original Haisla Bridge. While we may be sad to see it go, the structure has certainly hit the end of its useful life.
More information about the Haisla Bridge project is on our website at www.kitimat.ca/mp.
