The annual maintenance for the Sam Lindsay Aquatic Centre will be August 8 to September 24.

Here is everything you’ve ever wanted to know about our pool’s maintenance:

What is the annual maintenance closure?

A public swimming pool requires a lot of complex machinery and plumbing to handle the thousands of patrons we welcome each year. All public swimming pools undergo a period where they need to lock the doors so they can focus on the year’s required maintenance.

Why is the closure always at this time of year?

This is our most common question. We know there are fewer patrons in our pool at this time of year. Also, we need qualified and certified tradespeople to support our work during this time. We plan the work so we have the right people available and so we’re impacting the fewest people.

What can I do while the pool is closed?

Excellent question. In no particular order:

  • Continue to use our other facilities and programs at the Tamitik Jubilee Sports Complex, and Riverlodge Recreation Centre
  • Enjoy one of our dozens (upon dozens) of community parks and playgrounds (Visit www.kitimat.ca/parks)
  • On our sunny days, stop by one of our two community wading pools, near Chilko Street and Heron Street (Visit www.kitimat.ca/WadingPools2023)
  • Take your family out to Minette Bay West, Kitimat’s newest nature park (Parks and Campgrounds)
  • Check out our local library or museum
  • And much more!
