Festivals Kitimat is excited to launch a day full of events on July 1.
Here’s your guide to Canada Day:
Free local transit
Throughout the day, it’ll be easy to get around by using the day’s free local transit!
Kitimat’s regular bus routes will run until 9:00 p.m..
A special shuttle service by Transdev will continue on Kitimat's usual transit routes starting at 9:00 p.m. until midnight, departing from the Riverlodge Recreation Centre.
Fill up on a pancake breakfast
Breakfast runs at the Upper City Centre Mall entrance area, between 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
Watch the parade
The Kinsmen Canada Day Parade starts at noon. Route begins at Mountainview Square at Wakashan, then:
- Heads up Wakashan and continues on to Tsimshian Avenue
- Turns left at Haisla Boulevard
- Turns left at Kuldo Boulevard
- Ends at Kuldo and Columbia Avenue
Have a swim at the Aquatic Centre (For free!)
There is a free swim from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Sam Lindsay Aquatic Centre. Enjoy this time to make a splash. Free Popsicles included!
Helicopter Rides
Our time-honoured tradition of helicopter rides continues. Registration begins at 12:30 p.m. at the Riverlodge field, and flights are booked on a first-come, first-served basis. Flights begin at 1:00 p.m. and continue until 6:00 p.m.
Fun times at the Riverlodge
Activities continue throughout the afternoon from 1:00p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the Riverlodge Recreation Centre, outside and inside.
- Inflatable Fun Zone for kids.
- Haisla Cultural Experience Pavillion.
- Outdoor vendor market.
- Presentation of Kitimat’s Distinguished Citizen Awards on stage, at 2:00 p.m.
- Entertainer Nikolai Smith on stage, 2:10 to 2:40 p.m.
- Hula Hoop Circus, on stage from 2:45 to 3:15 p.m.
- Dunk tank
- International Food Fair
- ‘The Locals’ band
Outdoor concert
Live music gives the Kitimat twilight hours some sparkle.
The concert runs 6:00 p.m. until 11:00 p.m. at Riverlodge, featuring a number of local bands and our Headliner the American Rock Legends.
Event includes beer garden for 19+. Please bring your own seats.
Fireworks
July 1 will be a blast with a fireworks display at the Riverlodge Recreation Centre field at 11:00 p.m., following the concert.
