Garbage and Recycling

The District of Kitimat provides curbside residential waste collection and operates a landfill.  Improvements are coming to both services beginning in May 2021.

The curbside program is being expanded to allow for more recycling of organic materials, packaging and paper.  In May 2021, yard waste will be collected separately from garbage and composted at our landfill.  More details can be found under the Residential Curbside Waste Collection tab below.

At the landfill, we will be working to modernize the site, and enhance the source separation requirements to help reduce the amount of recyclable and compostable materials being landfilled.  Information on where the landfill is located, its hours of operation and how to prepare your waste for arrival at the landfill can be found under the Landfill tab below.
