Garbage Collection
The District of Kitimat offers curbside garbage collection every other week, alternating with recycling collection.
Download your Collection Calendar here.
Collection Information
  • Garbage is collected biweekly
  • A maximum of three garbage bins are accepted
  • All waste must be tied in a garbage bag, not loose in your bin
  • Bins must be at the curb by 8:00 a.m. on your collection day, and not set out the night before
  • Sharp objects (like broken glass) must be safely contained in your garbage bin. Consider putting sharp objects in a cardboard box, and then placing the box in your garbage bag.

Garbage Bins
  • Garbage bins must be plastic, with a removable lid
  • Bins cannot exceed 121 L and 50 lbs.
  • Garbage must be stored in a secure location until pickup day, like a locked garage or shed

Reducing Interactions with Wildlife

They have the nose to find it, and the memories to come back for more. Help prevent bears and other wildlife from becoming a problem in your neighbourhood:

  • Put garbage out by 8:00 a.m. on your collection day, and not the night before
  • Clean your garbage bin regularly
  • Store your bins in a secure location, like a locked garage or shed
