The Kitimat region is home to coastal parks, protected areas and heritage conservancies. Some you can get to by land, others are more remote and accessible only by water.

Kitimat has two campgrounds with a variety of amenities.
Overnight and RV camping are available at Radley Park and Hirsch Creek Park. 2019/2020 camping fees
Both parks have a covered area that can be reserved for social gatherings by organizations, families or groups. This area is for shared use at no charge. Call us to reserve.

Hirsch Creek Park
|
Hirsch Creek Park is located in old growth forest and is the perfect spot for fishing and hiking for the whole family. This is a wilderness/natural area with minimal disruption to the forest. It is an ideal location for those who would like to “get away” but still be close to town.
Hirsch Creek Park regular season is from May 15 to September 15 (weather dependent).

Take Highway 37 north and just after the Hirsch Creek bridge turn left into Hirsch Creek Park. Within the park there are short hiking trails. Turn right at the fork in the park road and watch for hiking trail signs.
Extra caution: Be cautious on trails near the creek as there may be erosion, and watch out for bears during salmon spawning season.

Description

Hirsch Creek Park features numerous picnic areas along the riverbank, a covered barbeque area, dry toilets and six campsites. The park also includes a ball field.

Radley Park
|
Radley Park is a 38-unit facility on the west bank of the Kitimat River, a river well known for great fishing.

Regular park season is from May 15 to September 15 (weather dependent).

Description
|
The campground is equipped with electrical sites (16), coin-operated showers and a playground. Adventurous campers can take advantage of the many recreational opportunities available on the Kitimat River, including trout and salmon fishing, canoeing, kayaking and class-two white water rafting.

Kitimat has 22 adventure parks, including two with a wading pool. These parks help to get kids outdoors to play and be active and healthy.
The two wading pools are open Wednesday to Sunday from 12 noon to 5:00 p.m. on sunny summer days only. To confirm if the pools are open call Tamitik Jubilee Sports Complex at 250-632-8955.

Skate and bike park
|
The Kitimat Sk8 Park is an outdoor park designed for those who like to do tricks on their skateboards, bikes, scooters or rollerblades.
During winter months opportunities to skate indoors are available for those who are 13 years and older. Call Tamitik Jubilee Sports Complex for more information at 250-632-8955.

Sports fields and tennis courts

You can book the fields and courts by calling Riverlodge Recreation Centre at 250-632-8970.
Ball fields
|
We have six baseball diamonds: three at Riverlodge Recreation Centre and three at Nechako School.
|
Soccer field
|
We have one soccer field located at Riverlodge Recreation Centre that is maintained by the District of Kitimat. There are four additional fields at the Bill Rich Soccer Fields which are maintained by the Kitimat Youth Soccer Association.

Tennis courts

We have four municipal tennis courts in Kitimat that are free for public use: three at Riverlodge Recreation Centre and one at Nechako Centre.
